Bio//short/100 words

Lana Winterhalt is a Recovering Theatre Kid–dramatic, emotional, charismatic, sparkly, larger than life–all fuelled by caffeine and Zoloft. As an introverted extrovert, Lana is chaotically balanced between a life on the stage as a performer and life as a hermited music producer, crafting a sonic universe for listeners to walk around and get lost in. Lana has released 10 projects in the past 6 years, with the last 5 of those being self-made in some or all aspects of the engineering and production; she mixes dusty guitars and grandiose harmonies in an attempt to leave you feeling sparkly and weightless.

All of this comes to life on her full-length album, Recovering Theatre Kid (March 23, 2024), where Lana wraps gentle feelings of nostalgia in swirls of strings and dreamy synths on songs like “Static”, and powerful feelings of betrayal and regret into epic, climactic, musical-theatre-inspired ballads on songs like “Please Don’t Let Me Go”. Lana’s insomnia takes centre stage on songs like “Rattling in My Head” and “Bean”, where late-night thoughts of insecurity and doubt are free to wander around in the silence of the night. This album is the new companion to anyone who has been told they’re “too much” or “not enough”.

With a strong discography of 3 EP's and 2 full-length albums (If & When 2018, Diamonds holiday album 2019), Lana applied and was accepted into Manitoba Music's Canadian Songwriter's Challenge 2020 where she met Kim Temple of High Priestess Publishing (Six Shooter Records). Kim quickly recognized Lana as a strong songwriter and composer and signed Lana to High Priestess in November of 2020.

After releasing two more EP's in 2021 (Still and Summer Magic) Lana re-entered creative hibernation mode, spending time songwriting, producing, and strategically planning with her Winnipeg-based organization Good + Plenty Arts Collective, a promotional group that focuses on amplifying underrepresented artists in the Winnipeg music scene. From this platform Lana also started the Good + Plenty Producer's Club, a networking collective for women and gender expansive folks working in the recording industry to share knowledge, support one another, and find opportunities. The Good + Plenty Producer’s Club has since been nominated for a Community Excellence award at the Western Canadian Music Awards (2023), and won the Rising Leader award at the Women in Music Canada Honours event 2024.

Lana's hibernation paid off as she was accepted into Music Publishers Canada Women In The Studio 2021 National Accelerator program which connected her with world-renowned songwriters and producers including Rob Wells, Susan Rogers, and Amandine Pras. Lana has quickly gained the reputation of a sought-after songwriter and co-writer, accepting invitations to song camps for High Priestess, SOCAN, and Grayson Music.

It's important to be said: there is something extremely special about Lana Winterhalt. Her infectious personality shines in live performances, incorporating her sense of humour and poeticism not unlike Jann Arden, Donovan Woods, or Afie Jurvanen (Bahamas).
